First it was Garlic Fest, then the Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival. Now the town best known for its restaurants will be offering three days of retail therapy for vintage enthusiasts.

Highwood first introduced the new North Shore Flea at the Evening Gourmet Farmers Market this past summer. Now, on December 2nd, 3rd and 4th the North Shore Flea will be doing it’s very own Holiday Market to coincide with Highwood for the Holidays, an annual event to support local troops stationed in near by Great Lakes Naval and Fort Sheridan.

The North Shore Flea Holiday “Pop Up” show will take place in an empty storefront nestled in between Highwood’s new Tap House Grill and Washington Gardens at 258 Green Bay Road. For 3 days only- December 2nd, 3rd and 4th- thirteen vendors carrying various types of vintage goods will be on hand to sell their wares including sparkling vintage costume jewelry, vintage holiday décor, vintage clothing, coats and dresses, clothing and accessories for men and more.

“Vintage is hip, current and many pieces are one of a kind,” says Melissa Sands, founder of the North Shore Flea. “I love vintage because you can find something unique and well made that can actually hold it’s value, plus it’s the perfect gift!”

“Chicago is a great place for pop up markets. A pop-up show is simply that, a show or store that pops up for a short amount of time with all fresh merchandise, then at the end of the weekend, you pack up what little is left and go home. It’s exciting and fun and you’d better get it if you see it, otherwise it’ll be gone.” Said Sands.

Wine and snacks will be served on Friday night from 5pm to 10pm and a $2.00 donation at the door is requested to support military families.

Now that the weather has turned (consistently?) warm, get out of the house and come to one or all of three Ridge Road events this Sunday, May 2. Two are kid-friendly; one, not so much.

Wilmette Police Department Open House

Sunday, May 2 from 11:00-2:00
710 Ridge Road

This is sure to be a kid-pleaser, with tons of cool stuff to see like the firearms range, the lock-up, crime lab, bomb squad and major crimes forensic unit. Think CSI Wilmette! And be sure and bring along your camera to take mug shots of the kids.

Wilmette Historic Museum Open House

Sunday, May 2 from 11:00-2:00
609 Ridge Road

Take a self-guided tour of the museum and see all the exhibits, including the newly restored Akeley mural depicting native Americans on Wilmette’s lakefront and the wedding finery exhibit. Not to be missed is the original jail cell that is still in the basement. Afterward, linger out front and listen to a concert by the Wilmette Community Band.

Heritage Trail Spring Flea Market

Sunday, May 2 from 9:00-5:00
410 Ridge Road

This is Heritage Trail’s spring sale, with deals inside the mall and outside in the back parking lot. Lots of great stuff for the antique lover, but probably not where you want to bring your toddler, unless you enjoy saying “Don’t touch!” every five seconds.
