The City of Highland Park is located on the North Shore, about 24 miles from downtown Chicago. It lies just north of Glencoe,  south of Highwood and east of Deerfield. The topography of the area is characterized by deep wooded ravines running down towards the lake.

The population is 33,492 making Highland Park one of the largest communities on the North Shore. Median family income is $137,703.  Highland Park has a large and vibrant downtown, with a variety of restaurants, movie theaters and boutiques, as well as large national retailers such as Pottery Barn, William Sonoma and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Housing

Housing stock is diverse, both in style and price. Styles range from contemporary to traditional and include ranches, split levels, Colonials, Tudors and Prairie style homes, the most famous of which is the Willits House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Single family home prices range from $150,000 to $5,000,000, with a median price of $600,000. There is also a range of condos and town-homes in Highland Park, priced from $140,000 to $2,000,000.

Schools

Highland Park is served by District 112.  There are eight elementary schools, two middle schools and a junior high. High school students from Highwood and Highland Park attend Highland Park High School .

Amenities

Highland Park’s Park District offers youth and adult athletic programs including tennis, swimming, basketball, baseball, softball and football. Rosewood Beach is available for use by Highland Park residents. Highland Park Golf Club is open to the public.

Ravinia Park is an open-air pavilion seating 3200, which hosts classical, pop and jazz concerts in the summer. It has been the summer home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1936. Concert-goers can purchase seats in the covered pavilion or tickets to sit on the lawn. A delightful way to spend a summer evening is to arrive early and picnic on the lawn before and during the concerts.

Highland Park also has an excellent hospital.

Transportation

Residents can reach downtown Chicago via the Edens Expressway (Rt. 41) or the Union Pacific Metra North Line commuter train. There are four stations in Highland Park: Braeside, Ravinia Park (summer only), Ravina, and Highland Park.
