How Chicago Home Price Index Compares to National
The just released Case Shiller Index for January was good news for the housing market. The annual rate of decline for home prices has improved in January vs. last month and vs. January 2009. The 10 city composite is unchagned vs. year ago and the 20 city composite was down only 0.7%.
The cities showing the most positive trends were San Francisco (+9%), San Diego (+5.9%), Dallas (+4.1%) and Los Angeles (+3.9%). The cities with the worst trends were Las Vegas (-17.4%), Tampa (-7.4%), Detroit (-7.4%) and Miami (-6.7%).
Chicago was right in the middle. Still declining at -4.4% since January 2009 but down only 1.7% vs. December 2009.
